MARY JANE KIRBY, WOMEN'S RUGBY
Mary Jane Kirby of Brampton, Ont., was instrumental in the Gryphons 56-7 OUA quarterfinal win over Western on Saturday at Guelph. The fifth-year veteran led her CIS #2 ranked Gryphon team in scoring with three tries (15 points), each of them scored from different playing positions. Kirby is an exceptionally versatile athlete and has experience playing in both the forwards and the backs. In Saturday’s playoff victory she started at hooker and scored a try, moved to tight head prop and scored a try and then finally to inside centre, where she has been playing all season to score her third and final try. The Gryphons will now host the Queens Gaels at Varsity Field this Saturday (Oct. 22) in an OUA semi-final game at 1:00 p.m.
