Shannon Morelli led the Gryphons women’s volleyball team to a pair of wins over Western and Windsor in what was a pivotal weekend in regards to playoff positioning in the OUA West Division. On Friday night, January 23rd, the London, Ontario native took it to her hometown Mustangs by racking up 11 kills, one ace and 2.5 blocks in a match that saw the Gryphons need five sets to edge the Mustangs three-sets-to-two.
The next night, Morelli was at it again producing another 11 kills as the Gryphons (8-7) this time won in straight sets over the Windsor Lancers. Both wins came on the Gryphons home court and vaulted them back into second place in the OUA West Division standings with just four matches remaining on the regular season schedule.
Morelli, who averaged just over eight points per match through her first 13 appearances of the season, upped that average to 13.0 points per match this past weekend as she combined for a team-high total of 26 points in those two wins.
