BURLINGTON, Ont. – For the second time during the 2026-27 season, a student-athlete from the University of Guelph has been named 'OUA Athlete of the Week.'
Alistair Yeomans of the Guelph Gryphons men's rugby team has earned conference-wide honours alongside Kareame Cotton (Windsor football), Maddy Heeley (Brock Badgers women's soccer) and Mary Yang (Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey) for the period of September 14-20, 2026. Yeomans, a biochemistry major at the U of G scored three first half tries in his team's win over the Queen's Gaels on Saturday (Sept. 19).

Alistair Yeomans has earned 'OUA Athlete of the Week' honours following a massive first half showing in the Gryphons 61-17 win over the Queen's Gaels on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 19). Yeomans, the third-year hooker from Streetsville, ON, got his No. 1-ranked Gryphons men's rugby team off to a fast start, scoring a try in the opening minute of the game to set the tone for his side as they led wire-to-wire in the win. Yeomans was relentless on the pitch, leading the team with three tries in the match and was also one of the team leaders in tackles and carries. He plays a key role for the Gryphs in their lineouts and will depart the Gryphons briefly in the coming days to go represent Canada in U20's for the second time in his international career alongside his teammate
Malin Hazl. Alistair represented Canada in Fiji last year, and is now set to dawn the red and white in Chile before returning to the University of Guelph in time for the 2026 OUA men's rugby playoffs. Yeomans and the 2-0 Gryphons men's rugby team returns to action on Friday night (Sept. 25) from Varsity Field in a home matchup against the Brock Badgers.
