GUELPH, Ont. – The five-time defending OUA champion Guelph Gryphons men's rugby made a statement on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 19), defeating their conference rivals, the Queen's Gaels, in convincing fashion, with Guelph running away with a 61-17 victory at the University of Guelph's Varsity Field. Gryphons third-year standout Alistair Yeomans helped lead the way in a dominant opening half, with the biochemistry major accounting for three tries in the first half alone, with Guelph leading 40-0 over the Gaels at halftime. In total, six different Gryphon players scored tries on the day, with Guelph adding 21 more points in the second half en route to the 61-17 win. Danny Lucic had two tries, while Malin Mazl, Charles Trollip, Logan Cako and Kal Sager also touched down. With the win, the Gryphons improve to 2-0 in OUA regular season play, while the Queen's Gaels fall to 1-1.
 
The Gryphons (2-0) will next be in action on Friday, September 25 when they host the Brock Badgers at 7pm at Varsity Field. The Badgers are also 2-0 on the season with victories over York and RMC.
