Three University of Guelph Student-Athletes Represent Canada at 2025 FISU Summer World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany

GUELPH, Ont. – The University of Guelph was well-represented at the 2025 FISU Summer World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, with three current Gryphon student-athletes wearing the red and white for Team Canada at this summer's games. Travis Campbell (Gryphons men's track and field), Adenike Abiodun (Gryphons women's track and field) and Ceilidh Aho (Gryphons rowing) all competed in this summer's World University Games, which took place July 16 to 27 in the German cities of Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Hagen and Berlin.

Campbell, Abiodun and Aho were part of a Team Canada contingent that consisted of 125 athletes, supported by 55 staff, competing across nine different sports (archery, artistic gymnastics, athletics, badminton, rhythmic gymnastics, rowing, swimming, table tennis and taekwondo). Team Canada wrapped up the 2025 FISU Summer World University Games in Germany with 11 medals — two gold, one silver and eight bronze — marking its most successful Summer Games performance in eight years and the 11th-best in program history. The last time Canada reached double digits in medals at a FISU Summer Games was 2017 in Taipei, where it earned 13. This year's competition marked the first appearance for Canada at a Summer World University Games since Naples 2019, after missing the 2021 games (which were postponed to 2023 due to COVID) in Chengdu, China, and the cancellation of the 2023 games, which had been set for Ekaterinburg, Russia. Canada picked up six medals in 2019, one gold, one silver and four bronze.  The University of Guelph was also represented at this summer's games within the rowing staff, with Garrah Parkes serving as the team manager for Team Canada's rowing teams.
