GUELPH, Ont. – On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Ontario University Athletics (OUA) released the 2025-26 schedules for men's and women's basketball.
The Guelph Gryphons women's and men's varsity basketball teams will officially tip off a new season on Friday, October 24, 2025 in a marquee matchup, as they play host to the reigning OUA champions (on both the men's and women's sides) with the Ottawa Gee-Gees set to visit the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre for regular season opener. It is part of a highly-anticipated opening weekend on home court for the Gryphons, who will also play host to the Carleton Ravens the following night (Saturday, October 25).
The Gryphons men's and women's basketball teams will play a 22-game regular season schedule, with the opening round of the 2025-26 OUA basketball playoffs set to begin February 18, 2026. The 2025-26 OUA basketball season will culminate on Saturday, February 28, 2026 with the playing of the OUA's Critelli Cup (women's OUA title game) and Wilson Cup (men's OUA title game).
18 universities from across Ontario will be vying for a spot at nationals, with the U SPORTS Final 8 Championship on the women's side set to take place in Quebec City with Laval serving as hosts, while the men's national championship tournament will take place in Calgary (March 5-8, 2026).
The Gryphons women's basketball team reached the OUA quarterfinal stage a season ago, and enter the 2025-26 season under new leadership with
Christine Hyde entering her first season as head coach of the U of G women's basketball program. On the men's side, the Gryphons are coming off a promising 2024-25 campaign in which they fielded one of the youngest rosters in the conference while earning a playoff spot before falling to the TMU Bold in the opening round of the 2024-25 playoffs.
Tickets for the Gryphons men's and women's basketball season will be available for purchase online at gryphons.ca/tickets, with current University of Guelph students getting in free to all regular season home games when securing their ticket online at gryphons.ca/tickets.
