GUELPH, Ont. – Following an extensive national search, the University of Guelph Department of Athletics has named Christine Hyde head coach of the Gryphons women's basketball program.
 
"I am beyond excited and incredibly proud to lead the Gryphons women's basketball program into this new era," says Hyde, who arrives at the University of Guelph after having spent the past three seasons serving as the associate coach with the Waterloo Warriors women's basketball team. "I am eager to build on the University of Guelph's strong traditions and help push this team to new heights."
 
During her playing days, Hyde was a standout student-athlete at the NCAA Division I level at Texas Tech University (2009-2013) where she helped lead the Red Raiders to a pair of NCAA tournament appearances while earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in human development and family studies. After being invited to the San Antonio Silver Spurs (WNBA) Draft Camp in 2013, Christine would go on to play professionally in Europe from 2013-2018 with stops in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Turkey.

"While her on-court credentials speak for themselves, what makes Christine a truly great fit for our program is her passion and commitment to fostering a culture of integrity and accountability around the program which will benefit our student-athletes both on and off the court."
 
Hyde's coaching career has seen her excel at a variety of levels, including professionally where she served as an assistant coach with the KW Titans of the NBL(2021-22), helping lead the Titans an appearance in the NBL finals. A fixture within the Ontario Basketball Association, Christine has served as head coach of the U17 Team Ontario program for the past two years, with her Team Ontario squad capturing bronze at nationals in 2023 and gold in 2024. Christine will also serve as head coach of Team Ontario at the 2025 Canada Summer Games. Since 2022, she has served as an assistant coach with the Canada Basketball Junior Academy. At the high school, youth and prep school levels Hyde has also made a lasting impact in both coaching and player development through her work with the Malton Kings Basketball Academy and the Malton Youth Basketball Association. In her most recent stop, as associate coach with the University of Waterloo Warriors women's basketball program for the past three seasons (2022-23 to 2024-25), Christine helped the Warriors achieve a program-record 17 wins during her first season on staff. Hyde now takes over a Gryphons women's basketball program that featured in the U SPORTS Top 10 rankings for seven weeks during the 2024-25 season, with Guelph reaching the OUA quarterfinal stage for a third consecutive season.

Christine Hyde's first official day with the Guelph Gryphons women's basketball program will be on Monday, June 16, 2025.
