MLAX: Four Gryphons Men's Lacrosse Players Named CUFLA West All-Canadians

GUELPH, Ont. – Four student-athletes from the Guelph Gryphons men's lacrosse team were named CUFLA (Canadian University Field Hockey Association) West Division All-Canadians on Thursday, December 5, 2024. Liam Aston, Nolan Schott, Joe Columbus and Brendon Hoechsmann were named CUFLA West All-Canadians after leading the Gryphons men's lacrosse team to a sensational 2024 season where they went undefeated in the regular season with a 10-0 record, followed by a win over Toronto which earned them a spot in 2024 Baggataway Cup (national championship tournament) before bowing out in the semifinal round to Queen's.

For Liam Aston and Nolan Schott, this marks the second consecutive season in which they've earned the nod All-Canadians. Aston, the third year attacker from Ottawa, Ontario was one of the driving forces behind the Gryphons league leading 150 goals scored on the season. The management economics and finance major led all CUFLA with 46 points on the season as a first ballot All-Canadian. Nolan Schott, the fourth year defender is one of the top defenders in all of CUFLA. The Whitby, Ontario native is an exceptional team defender who thrives in his one-one-one matchup while facing the opposition's top forwards. In his first year with the Gryphons, Joe Columbus made his impact in the in the face-off dot earning him All-Canadian status as a rookie. The mechanical engineering major and face-off specialist represented the Western Conference in the inaugural CUFLA Rookie All-Star Game on Baggataway Cup weekend. Brendon Hoechsmann, in his third season with Gryphons men's lacrosse program has been named an All-Canadian for the first time at long stick midfield.
