GUELPH, Ont. - The three-time defending OUA champion Gryphons men's rugby team kicked off the 2024 season in style on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 7) at the University of Guelph's Varsity Field. The Gryphons won 52-17 over the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks in a season-opening matchup for both teams. Liam Bowman, a psychology major from Mississauga in his first year as a Gryphon, helped lead the way for Guelph with four tries on the day. Four different Guelph players recorded tries on the day, including two from Josh Henry. The Gryphons (1-0) will now prepare for a marquee matchup next Saturday (Sept. 14) with the Queen's Gaels set to visit U of G for a 3pm matchup at Varsity Field.
