THOROLD, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons varsity figure skating team claimed OUA bronze after finishing 3rd in the final team standings (out of 10 schools) at the 2024 OUA Figure Skating Championships. The two-day conference championship event was held at Canada Games Park in Thorold, Ontario (hosted by the Brock Badgers), with the Gryphons sending 20 student-athletes to compete. The Gryphons finished the OUA Championships with 8 medals (3 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze) while comfortably securing a spot on the podium in the final team standings (Guelph's 76 points for bronze, Queen's in 4th-place with 48 points). Only the University of Toronto Varsity Blues (2nd-place, 86 points) and Western Mustangs (1st-place, 89 points) finished ahead of the Gryphons. It marks the second consecutive season in which the Gryphons varsity figure skating team has reached the OUA podium, after having claimed silver a season ago.
Helping lead the way for the Gryphons at the 2024 OUA Figure Skating Championships was
Olivia Farrow (Oakville, ON). Farrow, a human kinetics major at U of G, was skating for the final time as a Gryphon, and made the most of her final varsity event, reaching the podium on three separate occasions with 2 golds and 1 silver. Farrow successfully defended her OUA gold from a season ago in the open rhythm couples dance, by once again topping the podium alongside
Kendra Knott. Farrow also claimed gold alongside teammates
Helene Carle,
Catherine Carle and
Ashley Goodliff in the pairs fours. The only other Gryphon skater to take home three medals was
Helene Carle, with the Georgetown, Ontario resident also among the list of Gryphons skating for the final time in the red, black and gold.
Helene Carle finished the two-day event by claiming 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze at the 2024 OUA Championships. Rounding out the Gryphons OUA gold medal performances was
Emma Carlucci (2nd-year, Sault Ste. Marie) and
Lucy Street (1st-year, Lady Smith, B.C.) taking top spot in intermediate couples pairs. See below for more details on the 2024 OUA Figure Skating Championships, or visit
