Box Score Toronto, Ont. – The Gryphon men's volleyball team started off the 2015 portion of their OUA schedule on a high note on Saturday night in Toronto with a 3-sets-to-1 victory over the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. Set scores were 25-18, 25-21, 24-26, 25-15. With the win the Gryphons improve to 8-4 while U of T falls to 3-9.
After a red hot start to the season, the Gryphons stumbled a bit heading into the Christmas break by losing three of their final four. Despite U of T's losing record, the Gryphons knew they would be in for a tough test on Saturday night. In their meeting earlier this season (Nov. 7), U of T jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Gryphons stormed back to win it in five. This time around, the Gryphons were the ones to jump out to the 2-0 lead. A tight third set went Toronto's way, but the Gryphons would seal the win with a dominant 25-15 effort in the fourth. The Gryphons received tremendous play in the middle with
Luke Woud (Uxbridge, ON) racking up a team-high 14 kills and
Marc Wilson (Stratford, ON) collecting nine blocks.
This game marked the first of three straight road games for the Gryphons who now make the trip to North Bay to take on Nipissing next weekend. After facing the Lakers on Saturday (Jan. 17) afternoon, it is back to Toronto for a matchup with York the next day (Sunday, Jan. 18
th – 4pm).
