BURLINGTON, Ont. – A pair of second-year student-athletes from the Guelph Gryphons men's volleyball team were recognized on Thursday afternoon (Mar. 5) as Ontario University Athletics announced the all-stars and major award winners from the 2025-26 OUA men's volleyball season.
Killian Donovan was named an OUA First Team All-Star and
Finn Hughes was named an all-star to the conference's third team.
Killian Donovan – OUA First Team All-Star
Killian Donovan has been named an OUA First Team All-Star for the first time following his emergence as one of the premier attackers in the conference this season. Donovan, the second-year outside hitter was a major cog in the Gryphon attack, starting in all 20 of his team's matches and leading the OUA with 286 kills, was second in conference with 339.5 total points and receives plenty of service as he's 2nd with 680 total attacks. The Sydney, Australia native is also one of the best at the service line with 28 aces (5th in OUA). The management major at the U of G has scored over 20 points in six of his matches this season, including recording a season-best 22 points on two occasions this season. Donovan in his team's four-set win over the Windsor Lancers on November 29 reached the 22-point mark, scoring a season-high 22 kills. He reached the 22-point mark again against the TMU Bold on January 31 when he had 21 kills on a season-best .450 hitting percentage in his team's four-set win.
Finn Hughes – OUA Third Team All-Star
For the first time,
Finn Hughes has been named an OUA All-star to the third team. Hughes, a second-year middle blocker turned a corner in the second half of the season as an important member of the Gryphons front row. The geography major appeared in 18 matches for Guelph finishing the season scoring the 4th most points on the team with 128.5 with 100 kills with a .388 hitting percentage and was second on the team with 34 total blocks. The Salt Spring Island, BC had one of his best games of the season on January 25 in his team's five set victory over the York Lions where he finished with a season-high 16.0 points, 13 kills with a .722 hitting percentage and no errors. Hughes had a strong showing in his team's quarterfinal match on February 20 against the Western Mustangs which he had 6 kills with a .455 hitting percentage, 3.0 total blocks and 5 digs.
