Guelph, Ont, (February 15, 2014) - The University of Guelph women's volleyball team qualified for the OUA Final Four for the second time in four years tonight with a 3-0 win over the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the W.F. Mitchell Athletic Center. Set scores were 25-21, 25-22 and 25-9.
The first set started well with the Gryphons jumping out to a 6-1 lead but Lakehead fought back to tie the set at 11. Guelph expanded the lead to 17-12 but Lakehead evened the set at 20 before a 5-1 run enabled the Gryphons to win 25-21. Set two was similar with Guelph leading early before Lakehead narrowed the gap late to one point. The Gryphons finished the set with two straight points to take the set 25-22. The third set followed a similar pattern with Guelph leading early, but a series of Lakehead hitting errors let the Gryphons run away with the set and seal the match at 25-9.

Kristen Almhjell who played two sets despite suffering from stomach flu all day.
Jennifer Johnstone also played a vital role today off the bench and we look forward to playing our best volleyball next weekend in Toronto."

Madison DeDecker and
Rachel Petcoff led the Guelph offense with 10 points each. DeDecker with seven kills and three aces, and Petcoff with nine kills and one ace.

The Gryphons will play the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the first round of the OUA Final Four next Saturday at 2:30pm at the University of Toronto.
