WVB: Maia Dan Named OUA All-Star; Natasha Spaling Named OUA Coach of the Year

BURLINGTON, Ont. - Ontario University Athletics (OUA) on Wednesday, March 4 announced the major award winners, all stars and all-rookie team seletctions for the 2025-26 women's volleyball season, with Gryphons outside hitter Maia Dan being named an OUA Third Team All-Star and head coach Natasha Spaling being named OUA Coach of the Year in her first season in charge of the University of Guelph women's volleyball program.

In her first season in charge of the Gryphons women's volleyball program, Natasha Spaling has been named OUA Coach of the Year. Spaling led her team to a regular season record of 14-6 and a 5th-place finish in the OUA. The Gryphons under Spaling's leadership excelled at home during the 2025-26 season, finishing with a 9-1 record from the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre. Guelph would qualify for the postseason but bowed out in the quarterfinal round to the Queen's Gaels. Natasha Spaling becomes the fourth Gryphon coach in school history to be named Coach of the Year. Spaling was an assistant coach for the Gryphons women's volleyball team for four seasons (2021-22 to 2024-25) before being named head coach on April 1, 2025.
 
 
Maia Dan – OUA Third Team All-Star

Maia Dan earns her first OUA All-Star nod as she was named an All-Star on the third team. Dan, a fourth-year outside hitter, was a consistent presence in the Gryphon attack throughout the season. The Waterloo native appeared in all 20 of her team's matches and led the team with 202.5 total points and 163 kills and was second on the team with 168 digs. Dan was a weapon for the Gryphons on the serving line, finishing 5th in the OUA with 31 aces. The environmental science major put together one of her best games in her team's five-set win over the Windsor Lancers on November 29 where she finished with 16 total points, 12 kills on a .478 hitting percentage while committing only one error and 4 aces in the match. Dan also had another standout match on January 31 where she had a season-best 17.5 points and 16 kills in her team's four-set win over the TMU Bold.
