The first set saw Waterloo jump out to an early 8-4 lead before the Gryphons fought back to take an 18-16 lead. Despite being up 23-21, a 5-1 run by Waterloo won them the set at 26-24. The third set was close early but Guelph surged ahead late to win it 25-16. Set 4 saw the Gryphons playing from behind for the whole set and they couldn't close the gap losing 25-23. A poor start to the fifth set saw the Gryphons down 7-2, but they chipped away at the lead and moved ahead 12-10. Up 14-11, Guelph gave up a 5-0 run to drop the set and the match at 16-14.

Coach Funk stated, "I was very disappointed in our performance tonight. We had one of our best weeks of practice but our mind set and execution level were different tonight as we lacked the confidence to close out 2 sets tonight and it cost us the match. Credit to Waterloo for hanging in there long enough to get the win." Maddie DeDecker led the offense with 14 points (12 kills, 2 blocks) followed by Shannon Morelli with 13 (8 kills, 4 aces, 1 block) while Kristen Almhjell had 30 digs to lead the defense. The Gryphons will close out their first half schedule tomorrow night when they host the McMaster Marauders at 6pm.
