Kingston, Ont. - The Gryphon men's volleyball team improved to 7-2 on the season with a 3-sets-to-1 win over the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) Sunday afternoon in Kingston. Set scores were 25-27, 25-14, 25-18, 25-14. With the loss, the RMC Paladins fall to 0-7.
The Gryphons got off to a slow start, dropping a tight opening set 27-25. That marked just the second set all season that RMC have managed to win. From there however, the Gryphons would start to take over, holding RMC to just 14, 18 and 14 the rest of the way. Fifth year left side, and reigning team MVP, Patrick Strzalkowski (St. Catherine's, Ont.) led the way for the Gryphons with 16 kills, 3 service aces and 21 points. Luke Woud (Uxbridge, Ont.) and Marc Wilson (Stratford, Ont.) dominated in the middle, combining for five stuff blocks on the day.
With the victory, the Gryphons finish their weekend trip to Kingston with one win and one loss (after losing to Queen's on Saturday). The Gryphons now have more wins than any other team in the OUA and sit atop the standings with the No. 3 McMaster Marauders (6-1). The Gryphons will be in action again on Friday, November 28th when they travel to Waterloo to take on the 4-4 Waterloo Warriors.
