Guelph, Ont. – The Gryphon men's volleyball team picked up their fifth straight win on Friday night as they beat the Varsity Blues 3-sets-to-2.  With the win, the Gryphons now sit at 5-1 on the season.  After falling behind 2-sets-to-love, the Gryphons once again showed great character in fighting their way all the way back for the victory.  This marks already the third time this season the Gryphons have won when the match has gone the distance.

Senior captain Patrick Strzalkowski, who was just named Gryphon Athlete of the Week, once again put in a strong performance finishing with 17 kills, 2 aces and 20.5 points.  Josh Green had a good night with 14 kills of his own to go with 9 digs.  The big guys in the middle did their job, with Marc Wilson racking up 16 kills and Luke Woud tallying eight block assists to go with his 18 points.  Defensively, fourth year libero Eric Wagner finished the night with 14 digs.

After a slow start to the match, it was another performance that Gryphon volleyball fans are getting accustomed to in 2014:  a gutsy, team effort that resulted in a win.

Next up for the men's volleyball team is a re-match with the Ryerson Rams (who handed Guelph their only defeat in the season opener in Toronto).
