Gryphons rally to tie Queens

Kingston, Ont. – The Gryphon field hockey team tied the Queens Gaels today 2-2 in Kingston.

It was clear from the onset, that the Gaels were very comfortable and confident with their surface. While Guelph was really struggling with the bounces, Queen's put two markers on the board early in the 4th and 17th minute. Twenty-one minutes into the contest, rookie centre defender Melissa Vogl netted her first goal as a Gryphon tipping a Laura Straus hit on a penalty corner. From that point forward, Guelph carried the play.

After the break, the Gryphons continued to maintain possession and evened the score at 51 minutes as Allison Chute last year's OUA Rookie of the Year, scored, returning to action for the first time this season. Daniela Jelec grabbed the assist. The Gryphs had a number of opportunities to put the game away in the last 10 minutes but were denied.

Tomorrow the Gryphons (6-1-1) take on Toronto at 10:45.
