Gryphons drop home-game to Lancers 3-0
 
GUELPH, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons matched up against the Windsor Lancers tonight (Jan. 14^th) in Guelph at the W.F. Mitchell Centre. The game was a battle of wills between the two teams who were tied in second in the OUA, with Windsor ultimately coming out on top 3-0. Set scores were 14-25, 25-27, and 22-25.
 
The Lancers started out strong and only a few minutes into the game had already built a solid seven point lead over the Gryphons. Guelph struggled with returning Windsor's attacks. The Lancers had good line-up including outside hitter Kyle Williamson (Essex, ON) who helped lead the Lancers with 11 total kills.  The Lancers took set one 25-14.
 
Guelph came into set two ready to go, and took an early lead. Winston Rosser (Whitby, ON) and Drew Whitaker (Sharon, ON) were major contributors to the Gryphons kill count – Rosser finished the night with 14 kills and once ace, while Whitaker finished with 12.
 
Guelph put enough pressure on the Lancers to stay on top for most of the set, forcing their opponents to call multiple time-outs to regroup. Windsor managed to hang on and the Gryphons soon found the score tied 25-25, as the intensity rose on the court. Ultimately a failed Gryphon block led to their demise; 25-27 for the Lancers.
 
Set three was a repeat of the first, with the Gryphons just beneath the cuff of the Lancer lead. Rosser and Whitaker continued to lead the Gryphon attack, competing with Williamson, Oake, and Adam Thompson (Portage, MB) on the other side of the court. Guelph rookie Kevin McCallum (Toronto, ON) was subbed into the third set and proved an asset.
 
The Gryphons started to make a come-back in the last minutes of the game and scared the Lancers into a time-out when the board sat at 21-24. They managed to grab one final point before the Lancers took the game with a Guelph service error.
 
The Gryphons go back on the road again and will be matching up against the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton on Jan. 21^st. The game begins at 8pm.
