Feb. 19: Windsor 75 – Guelph 54

Guelph, Ont. - The Windsor Lancers showed why they are the number two team in the country Saturday afternoon, defeating the Guelph Gryphons 75-54 in Alex Yallin's and Kara Muhlhausens's final home games as Gryphons.

With the loss, the Gryphon's finish the season with a record of 9-13, while Windsor improves to 20-2 on the year. The Gryphons will now travel to Laurier this week for an OUA playoff game.

The Gryphons were led by Ali Dzikowski's (Brantford, Ont.) 16 points. Meanwhile Kara Muhlhausen (Belleville, Ont.) and Jasmine Douglas (Guelph, Ont.) netted nine apiece. Alex Yallin (Port Colborne, Ont.) scored six in her final game.

For the Lancers, Jessica Clemencon led all scorers with 20 points to go with 10 rebounds. Bojana Kovacevic scored 16, while Miah Maria Langlois added 15 to go with six assists.

The Gryphon's were able to keep up with the talented Lancers in the first quarter thanks to timely three-point shooting. While the Gryphon's were unable to get anything going inside against the much larger Lancers, they kept close trailing by four after the first quarter.

Unfortunately, Windor's size advantage forced the Gryphon's into foul trouble, and they were unable to keep the gap close for very long. After tying the game up at 23 apiece midway through the second quarter, the Lancers closed the quarter on a 19-4, putting the Gryphon's into a sizable hole which they could not recover from.

Both teams traded baskets in the third, but Guelph was unable to cut the deficit to single digits, and the Lancers held on in the fourth with the game very much decided.

The Gryphon's would like to thank Alexandra Yallin and Kara Muhlhausen for all of their accomplishments over their careers. Each has worn the Guelph name with pride, and both will be truly missed.

The Gryphons finish the regular season sixth in the OUA and will now travel to play the third place Laurier Golden Hawks in an OUA West playoff game. The game will take place this Wednesday, February 23rd at 6:00pm at Laurier.
