Guelph 3 vs. RMC 0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-19)
The University of Guelph women's volleyball team set a new school record for most regular season wins with a 3-0 sweep of RMC in Kingston on Saturday. The Gryphons are now 15-3 and sit tied for first with the McMaster Marauders.
The Gryphons didn't make it easy on themselves in getting their 15th win of the season against the Paladins. Guelph never got a flow going in any of the sets as they made numerous mistakes in serve and attack which combined with some good serving and defense from RMC, enabled them to stay close through much of the match.
"We weren't happy with the way we played today, but in the course of setting a record like this, sometimes you have to win ugly which was definitely the case today. Our work is not done though as we still have a chance to finish first in the West against a tough Queen's team tomorrow and we will need to be better than we were today," stated coach Paul Funk.
Guelph's offence was anchored by strong play from libero Megan Canavan while Kylen Van Osch (12 kills, 3 blocks) and Brooke Lloyd (12 kills, 2 aces, 1 block) had 15 points each.
The Gryphons wrap up league play tomorrow at Queen's at 2pm with a victory securing first place in the Western division.
