Gryphons sweep Varsity Blues in Toronto


 
The Guelph Gryphon men's volleyball team swept the Toronto Varsity Blues 3-0  (21-25, 23-25, 22-25) on Friday night in Toronto.
 
The Gryphons improve to 2-1 on the season while the Blues drop to 1-2.
 
Guelph and Toronto battled it out for three straight sets, with neither team gaining a substantial lead.
 
Veteran Winston Rosser led the Gryphons with 11 points (7 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks) and seven digs in the win. Marc Wilson had eight points on three kills and five blocks. Hugo Curley led all Gryphons defensively with nine digs.
 
Fourth-year rightside hitter Mitchell Woodside of Clyde River, P.E.I., led the Blues with a game-high 12 kills and seven digs. Sophomore Jonathan Adomait (Dundas, Ont.) had 10 kills, while libero Michael Denton of Scarborough, Ont., led all players with 11 digs in the loss.
 
The Gryphons return to the court tomorrow afternoon as they travel to York. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
 
The Varsity Blues return to the court tomorrow night as they host the Waterloo Warriors at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.  Game time is set for 8 p.m.
