The men's lacrosse team took to the field at home tonight (Oct. 6), cruising to an easy 12-4 victory over Laurier. The win puts the Gryphons 6-1 on the season and in first place atop the CUFLA West division standings.
Eric Hubert (Mississauga, ON) scored four goals and had one helper for the Gryphons, while Curtis Knight (Oshawa, ON) had three goals. Rusty Poulton (Toronto, ON), Braden Gallant (Burlington, ON) Garrett Williams (Oshawa, ON), Jordie Daradick (Welland, ON) and Mr. Coast to Coast, Ryan O'Sullivan added singles. In the assist category, Jordan Critch (Orangeville, ON) had 3, Braden Gallant and Jordan Costa (Mississauga, ON) had two while Daradick, Connor Deuchars (Toronto, ON), Mike Clarke (Hamilton, ON) and Taylor Brown (Peterborough, ON) had one apiece.
Goalies Jeremy Snider (Kitchener, ON) and Connor Danko (Pelham, ON) split the game. Snider had 5 saves on the night and Danko recorded seven.
The low shot count was a testament to the solid defensive performance of the Gryphons. Brandon Pitts (Mississauga, ON), Spencer Fraser-Steinbach (Guelph, ON) and Jeff Sehl (Caledon East, ON) had good nights on longpole. Guelph also dominated possession with the trio of Ben Vangalen (Orangeville, ON), Nick Smith (Toronto, ON) and Garrett Williams controlling the face offs for the Gryphons.
Next up for the Gryphons are their season rematches against McMaster on Wednesday, October 12 at 8pm in Hamilton and then Sunday, October 16 against Brock, at Brock at 2pm. The Brock game will be a battle for first place and a bye in the playoffs
