Jan. 22: Guelph 73 – Waterloo 63
WATERLOO – A solid second half performance by the Gryphon women's basketball team pushed them to a 73-63 victory over the Waterloo Warriors this afternoon at the PAC gym in Waterloo. This is the Gryphons second victory of the regular season over the Warriors.
Guelph now sits in sixth place with an 8-6 record while Waterloo fell to 0-14.
The Warriors stuck with the Gryphons for the first half as the teams went into the locker room tied at 33.
A big third quarter was the difference as the Gryphons outscored the Warriors 26-10 and did not look back en route to their eighth win of the season.
The Gryphons shot 37.5 percent (27-72) from the field and out-rebounded the Warriors 46-32.
Leading the way for Guelph was a pair of guards, Marlee Freeman (Orillia, Ont.) and Kara Muhlhausen (Belleville, Ont.) each with 13 points. Freeman was 6-for-9 from the field while Muhlhausen was 3-for-6 and 7 of 12 from the charity stripe. Samantha Russell (Paradise Valley, AZ) picked up another double-double on the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Waterloo's Saraya Hickey led all scorers putting up 20 points in the loss.
Up next the Gryphons return home to the Mitchell Centre on Wednesday (Jan. 26) and will face the Brock Badgers for the first time this season. Tip off is 6:00 p.m.
