Women's Hockey – No. 7
The Gryphons women's hockey team climbed two spots in the latest national rankings to No. 7 following their victory over then No. 3-ranked Queen's Gaels on Saturday (Jan. 10). The Gryphons got out to quick lead :93 seconds into the game on the Katie Dance goal and got another goal from
Reese Coffey in the 2nd for the 2-0 shutout victory. Third-year goalie
Sophie Helfenstein would take care of the rest, stopping all 24 shots for her 5th shutout of the season and 10th career OUA shutout. The win sees Guelph improve to 12-1-3 on the regular season as they currently sit in 2nd-place in the OUA West Division. The Gryphons will be on the road for two games this weekend, starting on Friday night (Jan. 16) in Toronto when they take on the York Lions before heading down to Waterloo for a Saturday afternoon (Jan. 17) matchup with the U SPORTS No. 10-ranked Waterloo Warriors (10-6-1).
Women's Basketball – No. 10
For the first time this season, the Gryphons women's basketball team enters the national rankings at No. 10. The Gryphons cracked the U SPORTS Top 10 last season with their last appearance coming on January 29, 2025. Guelph returned the GGAC floor over the weekend where they earned victories over OUA West division rivals in Western and Windsor. On Friday night (Jan. 9),
Alexis Wright made two clutch free throws to give her side the lead as the Gryphon defence made a stand on the final possession to come away with the hard-fought 78-77 win over the Western Mustangs. The following night (Jan. 10), the Gryphons connected on 9 three-pointers in the game, including an important three-pointer from first-year guard
Stephanie Galikowski to put her side up 57-53 after the Lancers went on a run to get within one. The Gryphs from that point forward went on a 19-3 run to close out the game as they move into top spot of the OUA West with a 73-57 win over Windsor. The Gryphons (12-2) will head on the road for an U SPORTS Top 10 showdown in Kingston when they take on No. 3-ranked and undefeated Queen's Gaels (13-0) on Friday night (Jan. 16) before heading down to Oshawa to take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (0-13) on Saturday (Jan. 17).
