GUELPH, Ont. – Throughout the 2025-26 season, the University of Guelph Department of Athletics will be highlighting various members from our Gryphon varsity programs as part of our 'Gryph's Locker Athletes of the Week, presented by POWERADE' series.

Eric Armstrong (men's basketball) have been named 'Gryphon Athletes of the Week' for the period covering January 5 to 11, 2026.

For the second time this season, Gryphons women's basketball guard
Hannah Bourdon has been named 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' after helping the Gryphons to a pair of important OUA West division home wins. On Friday night (Jan. 9), the Gryphs were back on the court for the first time in the new year when they hosted the Western Mustangs where a pair of
Alexis Wright free throws with :07 seconds left helped the Gryphs to a 78-77 win. Bourdon, the Fort Erie, Ontario native, played a crucial role in the victory scoring 27 points to go along with her 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. The sport and event management major carried over her strong play to the following night in a matchup with the Windsor Lancers as had a season-high 7 steals to go with her 21-point, 12 rebound double-double in her team's 73-57 win, which gave the Gryphons sole possession of top spot in the OUA West division. The double-double was Bourdon's sixth of the season in an impressive campaign for the fourth-year guard. Bourdon in her 14 games played ranks in the top 10 of the OUA in PPG (17.1, 6th), total points (240, 3rd), total rebounds (130, 6th), assists (40, 6th) and steals (51, 2nd). Bourdon and the Gryphons women's basketball team are currently on a nine-game winning streak will head to the road for a pair of games this weekend when they take on the Queen's Gaels (Jan. 16) and Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (Jan. 17).
Eric Armstrong (Men's Basketball)
Eric Armstrong, a fourth-year forward on the Gryphons men's basketball team, is this week's 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' following the Gryphons weekend split at home against the Western Mustangs and Windsor Lancers to open the new year. On Friday night (Jan. 9), the New Hamburg, Ontario native finished with a game-high 22 points on 10-17 shooting from the field to go along with his 6 rebounds and 3 blocks as the Gryphs battled throughout the night but fell short in their 90-82 loss to No. 3-ranked Mustangs. The following night (Jan. 10), the management economics and finance major broke out with a career-best performance helping lead his team to a crucial 91-79 win over the Lancers. Armstrong finished the game with a career-high 33 points on 12-18 shooting from the field, making 4 of 6 from behind the arc to go along with his 8 boards and 2 blocks in the victory. Armstrong on the season is 11th in the conference with 207 total points and 91 total rebounds and 5th in free throw percentage at 84.4%. Armstrong and the Gryphons men's basketball team (7-7) will be on the road when they make the trip to Kingston on Friday night (Jan. 16) to take on the Queen's Gaels before heading down to Oshawa to battle the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Saturday (Jan. 17).
