KINGSTON, Ont. – The Gryphons women's volleyball team officially got the 2026 portion of their regular season schedule underway with a pair of road games (Jan. 9 and Jan. 10) in Kingston against the Queen's Gaels. It wasn't the start to 2026 the Gryphons were looking for, as they fell to the Gaels in the weekend doubleheader.
Game 1 | Friday, Jan. 9, 2026 | Gryphons take opening set, but fall 3-1 at Queen's
On Friday night (Jan. 9), the Gryphons got off to a nice start, taking the opening set 25-19 but ultimately fell in four sets, with Queen's taking each of the next three (20-25, 18-25 & 17-25). Leading the way in the loss for the Gryphons was second-year outside hitter,
Ainsley Preszcator. The 6-foot-3 sophomore from Vienna, Ontario led all players in kills with 13.
Game 2 | Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026 | Gryphons fall in straight sets to Gaels
Saturday afternoon, the host Gaels defeated the Gryphons in straight sets, with set scores of 16-25, 17-25 & 19-25. With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 6-6 on the season, while Queen's improves to 7-5.
Up next for the Gryphons (6-6), a pair of home games with the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves (3-9) on Friday, Jan. 16 (6pm) and Saturday, Jan. 17 (4pm). The Gryphons have eight games remaining in their regular season schedule, with six of those eight coming on their home court.
