GUELPH, Ont. – The No. 9-ranked Guelph Gryphons women's hockey team opened their second half of season on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 10, 2026) with a 2-0 win over the No. 3-ranked Queen's Gaels in a matchup between two U SPORTS Top 10 ranked teams. It did not take long for the Gryphons to get on the board, as Katie Dance
was able to score on a wrist shot to give Guelph an 1-0 lead, :93 seconds into the game. The Gryphons were buzzing around the Gaels net throughout the game, and would be rewarded at the 12:45 mark of the 2nd period as
Reese Coffey's shot
skipped along the ice and found the back of the net for her 4th goal of the season to double the Gryphon lead. The two goals would be all that U of G goalie
Sophie Helfenstein needed, as she held down the fort from that point forward making 24 saves, including
a breakaway save late in the 2nd period, en route to her 5th shutout of the season and the 10th of her OUA career. With the win, the Gryphons improve to 12-1-3 on the season while the No. 3-ranked Queen's Gaels drop to 13-3-1. Guelph is back on the road for a pair of road games next week when they visit the York Lions on Friday night (Jan. 16) before making a short trip to Waterloo to take on the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 17).
