GUELPH, Ont. – Throughout the 2025-26 season, the University of Guelph Department of Athletics will be highlighting various members from our Gryphon varsity programs as part of our 'Gryph's Locker Athletes of the Week, presented by POWERADE' series.
Olivia Rizakos (women's soccer) and
Ethan Fraser (men's soccer) have been named 'Gryphon Athletes of the Week' for the period covering September 22 to 28, 2025.
Olivia Rizakos (Women's Soccer)
For the second time this season,
Olivia Rizakos of the Gryphons women's soccer team has been named 'Athlete of the Week'. The Toronto native continued her torrid goal scoring pace, scoring 4 times in her team's victories in their home-and-home with the Waterloo Warriors over the weekend. On Friday night (Sept. 26), the forward scored a pair of goals in her team's 4-1 home win. Rizakos' carried over her strong play on the road in the rematch in Waterloo on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 28) where she scored twice and assisted on two other goals in the Gryphons 5-2 win. The psychology major has scored or assisted in 8 of her team's 9 matches as her side currently lead the OUA West division with a record of 7-1-1 (win-loss-draw). Rizakos is currently tied for the lead when it comes to the top goal scorers in U SPORTS women's soccer, with her 10 goals on the season putting her alongside Cara Freeman (Saint Mary's Huskies) and Zoe Rowe (Memorial Sea-Hawks) for the bragging rights of top goal scorer in the country. Rizakos also has 8 assists and 18 points on the season, with both of those categories putting her at the very top of U SPORTS leaders in assists and points. Rizakos and the rest of the Gryphons women's soccer team are back on the pitch this weekend as they battle the Western Mustangs in a marquee matchup between the two top teams in the OUA West Division. The first game gets underway on Friday night (Oct. 3) at the Gryphon Soccer Complex with the second matchup taking place in London on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 5).
Ethan Fraser (Men's Soccer)
Ethan Fraser of the Gryphon men's soccer team takes home this week's 'Athlete of the Week' honours following an impressive performance on Friday night (Sept. 26) in his team's win over the Waterloo Warriors. Fraser, a second-year standout on the U of G men's soccer team, scored twice on three shots in his team's 4-0 home win over the Waterloo Warriors on Friday evening. The biomedical engineering major also played a role in helping his team earn the 3-2 victory in Waterloo over the Warriors on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 28). The Guelph native has started in 6 of his team's 8 matches and is currently tied for the team lead with 3 goals on the season. Fraser and the Gryphons men's soccer (4-2-3 | wins-losses-draws) team return to the pitch on Friday night (Oct. 3) when they take on the Western Mustangs (1-6-0) from the Gryphon Soccer Complex before travelling to London in the rematch on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 5).
