GUELPH, Ont. – Wednesday night (Nov. 19, 2025) at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre, the Gryphons men's basketball team defeated the McMaster Marauders, 100-75. With the win, the Gryphons improve to 5-4 while McMaster fall to 1-8 on the season.
An offensive explosion for the Gryphons on Wednesday night saw the team hit the century mark in points for the second time this season (100-65 win over McMaster on Nov. 19, and a 102-75 win over Waterloo on Nov. 1). The Gryphons opened up Wednesday night's matchup with the Marauders on a 13-2 run, with Gryphons second-year guard
Amare Hamilton (Brampton, ON) connecting on three consecutive three-pointers to help Guelph get off to a blistering start. Hamilton, an OUA All-Rookie Team selection a season ago, finished the night with a game-high 19 points (5-of-10 from beyond the arc).
After the Gryphons took a 13-point lead into the locker room at halftime, the visiting Marauders would battle back, trimming the deficit to just six-points late in the 3rd quarter. But the Gryphons would respond nicely down the stretch, with
Raef Wykes knocking down a three-pointer to push the lead back to nine. Guelph would dominate in the 4th quarter, outscoring McMaster 29-13 in the final quarter en route to the 100-75 win. Along with
Amare Hamilton's game-high 19 points, the Gryphons also received strong showings from
Jack Tunstill (17 points, 7-10 shooting, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals) and
Eric Armstrong (16 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists). 6-foot-10 second-year forward,
Bennett Cotton (Toronto, ON), had one of his best games of his young Gryphon career, with the management economics and finance major adding 14 points on 6-7 shooting from the field.
Next up for the Gryphons (5-4), a Saturday afternoon (3pm) home matchup with the Brock Badgers (5-2). Saturday's matchup versus Brock marks the final home game of the calendar year for the Gryphons, who will then hit the road to close out the 2025 portion of their schedule with away games at Laurier (Nov. 26) and Waterloo (Nov. 28).
