CROSS COUNTRY RECAP: Gryphon Men Claim Silver; Women 4th; Alexandra McDougall Wins Individual Gold at 2025 OUA Cross Country Championships

KINGSTON, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Kingston for the 2025 OUA Cross Country Championships on Saturday (Oct. 25, 2025), hosted by Queen's University. The Gryphon men took home silver, finishing in 2nd out of 14 universities in the final team standings, with a pair of individual podium finishes from (Max Davies, 2nd, and Jack Lehto, 3rd). On the women's side, Gryphons fourth-year standout Alexandra McDougall won the individual event, crossing the line first overall in a field of 94 runners. As a team, the Gryphon women earned a 4th-place finish in the final team standings out of 13 schools.

The U of G men put together a strong performance in Kingston at Saturday's provincial championship. Max Davies and Jack Lehto, for the second consecutive year, crossed the OUA finish line in 2nd and 3rd-place, respectively, to take home individual silver and bronze medals. Both Davies and Lehto also earned OUA First Team All-Star status with their top 7 finish. Christian Rachner had another strong showing at the provincial championship as he placed in the top 10 for a fourth straight season. The biological sciences major narrowly missed out on OUA First Team All-Star status as his 8th place finish with a time of 23:59.9 gets him on the OUA Second Team. Charles Mills (23rd - 24:48.4) and Luke Feltham (33rd - 25:11.7) round out the top 5 Gryphon runners who contributed to the team's 2nd-place finish in the team standings. The men narrowly missed out on their 24th provincial banner as they finished 19 points behind the Queen's Gaels who finished ahead of the Gryphs with 50 points. 

On the women's side, Alexandra McDougall continued her remarkable 2025 season as she was the first person to cross the line out of 94 racers to claim the women's individual championship. For the fourth-year biomedical engineering major, this marks her 3rd race win of the season as she earned wins in the Vigars and Salter Western Invitational and Marauder BayFront Open. The Port Perry, ON native was dominant from start to finish as she finished with a time of 26:50.5, which was :48 seconds ahead of her next closest racer, Julia Agostinelli, in 2nd. For McDougall, she becomes the 13th women's individual cross country champion in program history. The finish also gave McDougall OUA First Team All-Star status. 

The women narrowly missed out on a podium spot, coming in 4th-place as they were 14 points behind the Western Mustangs who finished ahead of Guelph with 71 points to claim the bronze medal. Fourth-year runner Michelle Gray had a strong showing at OUAs as she finished just outside of the top 10 in 12th-place with a time of 28:28.3 to earn an OUA Second Team All-Star status. Leah Stapleton in her second provincial championship had a top 20 finish, crossing the line with a time of 28:51.7 to finish in 18th. Anna May just missed out on top 20 placing as she crossed the line in 21st with a time of 29:01.2 in her first OUA Cross Country Championships. Maeve Pestonji rounds out the top 5 Gryphs who count in the final standings finishing in 33rd with a time of 29:50.6.

Next up for the Gryphons men's and women cross country teams, the 2025 U SPORTS Cross Country Championships in Sherbrooke, Quebec. on Saturday, November 8 hosted by Sherbrooke.
