GUELPH, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons men's basketball team came away victorious in the Sheridan Bruins Wayne Allison Tournament over the holiday break. The Wayne Allison Tournament took place in Brampton, Ontario from December 29-30 on the campus Sheridan College at the Davis Campus Gymnasium, where the Gryphons were one of four schools squaring off in a bracket style exhibition tournament.
The Gryphons opened up their tournament with a 96-85 victory over the host Sheridan Bruins on Sunday (Dec. 29). Four Gryphon players finished in double digits led by
Amare Hamilton's 17 points on 7-10 shooting from the field to go along with his 5 assists in the win. Guelph matched up with a fellow OUA conference member in the Nipissing Lakers in the final on Monday (Dec. 30), where Guelph outscored the Lakers 23-10 in a 2nd quarter surge, leading the Gryphs to an 89-82 win in the championship game.
Eric Armstrong had himself a championship game, scoring a game-high 23 points on 10-13 shooting from the field as the Gryphons captured the Wayne Allison Tournament title for a second consecutive year.
The Guelph Gryphons are back in action for OUA conference play on Wednesday night (January 8, 2025) when they take on the McMaster Marauders from the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre. Tip is set for 8pm with
