GUELPH, Ont. – For a third consecutive season, the Guelph Gryphons women's basketball team has booked a spot in the OUA quarterfinals. Wednesday night (Feb. 21) on their home court, the Gryphons earned a convincing 74-50 playoff win over the visiting Windsor Lancers. The Gryphons, who entered the 12-team OUA playoffs as the No. 7-seed in the conference, got off to a fast start and never looked back, taking a 13-point lead into the locker room at halftime before pulling away from the No. 10-seeded Lancers in the 2nd half en route to the 24-point victory.

Julia Colavecchia (Niagara Falls, ON) scored a game-high 16 points (6-10 shooting) in what was a balanced attack for the Gryphons, with
Hannah Bourdon (14 points) and
Alexis Wright (12 points) also reaching double figures. The Gryphons shot 50% from the field as a team (30-60) while holding the Lancers to just 28% shooting from the floor (18-64). The Gryphons also connected on nine three-point shots, four of which came from Colavecchia who ended the night an efficient 4-8 from beyond the arc.
Renee Armstrong added 9 points and 7 assists, while senior forward
Trinity Papamandjaris finished with 9 points and 5 rebounds in just 17 minutes of floor time.
With the win, the Gryphons advance to the OUA quarterfinals on Saturday (Feb. 24), where they will travel to Kingston to face the No. 3-ranked team in the country in the Queen's Gaels. Queen's finished the regular season with a record of 18-2, and enter the OUA playoffs as the No. 2-seed in the conference. Tip off in Kingston on Saturday night is set for 6pm at the Gaels' ARC Gymnasium and will be streamed live online at
www.oua.tv. The winner of the Gryphons-Gaels game will advance to the OUA semifinals, to face the winner of Brock and TMU.
