GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons women's rugby team rode an outstanding first half of rugby as they defeated the Brock Badgers 71-10 on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 19) in the OUA Semifinal. The Gryphons would get off to a fast start when
Lara Jorgensen scored a try in the 4th minute, with the bulk of the scoring for Guelph in the opening 30 minutes, scoring six tries and getting out to a 40-0 lead propelling them to victory this afternoon. The win books their spot in the OUA gold medal match as they also clinch a spot in the 2024 U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship which will be held in Charlottetown, October 30 to November 3.

Eight different Gryphons would score tries on the day, which includes
Kennedy Feasby as she led the team with three tries and
Lara Jorgensen scoring a pair of tries. Addy Holmes,
Natalie Armatage,
Madeline Di Girolamo,
Madelyn Ryan,
Karenna Ottywill and
Grace Jacklyn all scored a try in the team's win.
The win would mark Guelph's second victory over Brock this season, after they defeated the Badgers 75-6 in St. Catharines on September 14. The Gryphons finished with a 5-1 record during the six-game regular season and received a bye in the opening round of the OUA playoffs as they entered as the No. 2-seed. Guelph will now head to Kingston for the 2024 OUA Championship game to face the Queen's Gaels on Friday night (Oct. 25) as they look to avenge their losses in the last two championship games to the Gaels. The Queen's Gaels defeated the Western Mustangs 72-0 on Friday night (Oct. 18) in the other semifinal to earn the right to host the OUA gold medal game as the No. 1-seed.
