GUELPH, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons women's basketball team picked up a second win over the Algoma Thunderbirds in as many days, winning 72-39 over the visitors from Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 18) at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre. After taking a modest 7-point lead into the locker room at halftime, the Gryphons would find another gear in the 2nd half, outscoring Algoma 35-9 over the course of the 3rd and 4th quarters. Three different Gryphons scored in double figures, including standout guard,
Renee Armstrong, who returned to the University of Guelph lineup after not featuring in Friday night's 59-41 victory for the Gryphons. Armstrong scored a team-high 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
Keryl Ousey chipped in with 12 points and 6 rebounds off the bench, while
Alexis Wright added 10 points. The Gryphons, who improved to 4-2 on the season with the win, once again dominated Algoma on the glass, outrebounding the Thunderbirds (0-6) 45-to-23. The will return to their home court next Wednesday (Nov. 22) to host the Laurier Golden Hawks, before heading to Waterloo for a Saturday, November 25 matchup with the Golden Hawks on the campus of Wilfrid Laurier University.
