TORONTO, Ont. - Wednesday night (Oct. 31) at Ryerson's Coca Cola Court, the Gryphons men's basketball team suffered a 96-59 loss to the No. 2-ranked Rams. Ryerson, the national silver medalists in each of the past two seasons, had five different players score in double figures to help the Rams improve to 2-0 on the young season. The Gryphons, who fall to 0-3 on the year, were led by
Tommy Yanchus (14 points) and
Rasheed Weekes (13 points on 5-of-7 shooting).
The Gryphons were limited to just 23.9% shooting from the field, compared to 43% by the Rams. Ryerson also made 42 trips to the free throw line (34-42, 81%) and out-rebounded the Gryphons 58-41.
The visiting Gryphons were never able to recover from a slow start that saw the Rams build up a 17-point lead after the opening quarter of play, where the Gryphons were just 2-of-15 from the field. The Gryphons will return to action on Saturday night when they will be in Toronto once again, this time for a matchup versus the 0-1 Varsity Blues, who also suffered a lopsided defeat (103-51) versus the powerhouse Rams in their season opener. Game time on Saturday night at U of T is set for 8pm with the game webcast live online at oua.tv.
