SUDBURY, Ont. – Friday night in Sudbury, the Gryphons men's basketball team suffered an 84-71 loss to the Laurentian Voyageurs. With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 2-6 on the season while Laurentian improves to 5-1.
The Voyageurs were led by sophomore guard Kadre Gray who poured in 39 points on 13-22 shooting. The Toronto native finished 4-7 from beyond the arc while also racking up 7 rebounds and 7 assists. He was part of a deadly one-two punch for Laurentian, who also received a 22-point performance from senior guard Nelson Yengue.
While Laurentian's scoring came primarily from two players, the Gryphons received a balanced attack offensively, with senior guard
Taylor Boers leading the way with 13 points off the bench. As a team, the Gryphons shot 42% from the field, but made just nine trips to the free throw line (compared to 30 by Laurentian). The Gryphons were also out-rebounded 48-31 on the night.
The Gryphons will be back in action on Saturday night when they continue their northern Ontario road trip with a stop in North Bay to take on the Nipissing Lakers (3-3). Game time for Saturday night in North Bay is set for 8pm and can be seen live online at oua.tv.
