WATERLOO, ON - Thursday night at Wilfrid Laurier's Athletic Complex, the Gryphons men's basketball team won 60-52 over the Golden Hawks in preseason action. Despite trailing by 10 points after three quarters of play, the Gryphons would go on to outscore Laurier 20-2 in the fourth quarter to seal an eight-point victory.
At one point during the third quarter, the Gryphons found themselves trailing by as many as 15. Over the final 10-plus minutes of play however, the Gryphons would start to make a huge run to complete the come-from-behind win. Fourth year point guard
Daniel Dooley scored a team-high 18 points. Rookie guard
Craig Valeriote (Guelph, ON) provided terrific energy off the bench and was an instrumental part of the Gryphon comeback. Valeriote scored 10 points in 11 minutes of floor time while also hauling in 5 rebounds.
The Gryphons are now 2-5 on the preseason, but a perfect 2-0 versus CIS opponents after having also defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks back on October 1st. Up next for the Gryphons, a trip to St. Catharines next Friday (October 22) where they will face off against the Regina Rams. Following their game versus Regina, the Gryphons will be right back in action the following day as they take on the Toronto Varsity Blues at 2pm on Saturday, October 22nd with the game being played at St. Mary's High School in Woodstock.
