The Guelph Gryphons men's basketball team will face the Laurier Golden Hawks in the first round of the OUA playoffs on Wednesday night (Feb. 19) at the Laurier Athletic Complex in Waterloo.
 
Tip-off between the OUA West sixth-seeded Gryphons (6-12) and third seeded Golden Hawks (10-12) is set for 8:00 p.m. and the contest can also be seen live online at Hawk TV here: http://www.laurierathletics.com/live/
 
During the regular season the two teams split their regular season play with the Golden Hawks taking the first game 82-78 in November at the Mitchell Centre and the Gryphons picking up the road victory in January by a final score of 84-81.
 
Finishing as the sixth seed the Gryphons grabbed the last spot in the OUA west playoffs. The team is coming off a pair of losses on the road to the Lakehead Thunderwolves this past weekend by scores of 70-56 on Saturday and 80-75 in overtime Friday.
 
The Gryphons will look to senior guard Zachary Angus to lead the team as he plays in his final season with the squad. The Business student finished the regular season as the team's leading scorer averaging 12.5 points per game.
 
Complimenting Angus in the scoring department for the Gryphons has been a pair of rookies. Daniel Dooley and Taylor Boers have contributed 9ppg each this season. Boers has become a premier three point shooter in the league averaging 53 percent to sit top three in the OUA.
 
As for the Golden Hawks, they will turn to their big guns Max Allin and Will Coulthard who consistently lead their offensive charge. Allin, last year's CIS scoring champion sits sixth in the OUA this year with 19.2ppg, while Coulthard is averaging 16.7ppg.
 
The winner of the first round of playoffs will advance to the OUA West Semi Finals on Saturday, February 22.
