Guelph, Ont.
 – Saturday night the Gryphon men's basketball team opened up their 2014-15 home schedule as they played host to the Algoma Thunderbirds at W.F. Mitchell Athletic Centre. The Gryphons came into the game having lost their first two games in the OUA season, but would get into the win column with a convincing 89-61 rout of Algoma.

Daniel Dooley (Burlington, ON) and Trevor Thompson (Burlington, ON) did the damage early on, combining to score 20 of the Gryphons' 28 points in the opening quarter.

The second quarter was much tighter, with just four points separating the two teams.  But the Gryphons were able to maintain momentum in that quarter thanks to a nice and-one from Trevor Thompson who showed some great strength down low to get the basket to go, plus the foul.  The Gryphons took a 48-25 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Gryphons would pull away even further in the second half as they would cruise to the 89-61 win.  The Gryphons are now 1-2 on the young season and will be in action again on Wednesday night when they host York.
