MEN'S BASKETBALL – McCarthy scores 24 as Gryphons devour Gaels
KINGSTON, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphon men's basketball team defeated the Queens Gaels 73-56 tonight in Kingston to move to 2-0 on the season. Dan McCarthy (Guelph, Ont.) led all scorers with 24 points.
The Gryphons got off to a quick start in the first half shooting 48.5% from the field. Guelph outscored the Gaels by 12 points in the first quarter and eight in the second as they took a 20 point lead heading into the second half.
The Gaels showed grit and determination as they dug in and limited Guelph to only 28 second half points. The Gaels put together 31 points of their own and outscored the Gryphons by a three point margin.
Zach Angus (Burlington, Ont.) had 12 points while rookie
Aron Campbell scored 10.
The Gryphons will open their regular season at home next weekend against another pair of East Division Teams. On Friday (Nov. 18) the Gryphons will take on the Ryerson Rams and Saturday (Nov. 19) the Toronto Varsity Blues. Tip off for both games will be 8:00 p.m. at the W.F. Mitchell Athletic Centre.
