Voyageurs Escape Gryphon’s, 55-44

  Nov. 26: Laurentian 55 – Guelph 44

GUELPH, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphon men's basketball team dropped a 55-44 final to the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs Friday night at the W.F. Mitchell Athletic Centre.  The Gryphons record drops to 3-4 on the season.

Guelph simply could not buy a shot tonight. The usually smooth-shooting Gryphon's went cold, shooting a collective 26% from the field, as well as 27% from the line. The 44 points were a season low.

Michael Petrella (Brantford, Ont.) led the Gryphon's with 11 points, while Michel Clark (Burlington, Ont.) added eight off the bench. Dan McCarthy (Guelph, Ont.) netted six points while collecting 10 rebounds.

The Laurentian offence also struggled, as the Gryphon defence held them to five points in the first and third quarters. A late fourth quarter run by Laurentian sealed the Gryphon's fate, as they continued to struggle from the floor.

Laurentian was led by Georges Serresse who scored 13 off the bench. Mike Hull added 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Manny Pasquale chipped in 10.

Turnovers plagued both teams, and neither team was able to separate itself from the other for much of the game. The back and forth game had a number of lead changes, and no team was ever up more than the 11 differential at the end.

The 30 point final quarter was more than Laurentian was able to generate the three quarters prior.

Guelph hopes to get back to their winning ways as the host York this Saturday night at the W.F. Mitchell Centre. Tipoff as always is 8pm.
