The Gryphs were out for revenge as they had allowed Western back in the game on Saturday with a 2-2 result.

The match was an excellent display of speed and power by both sides.

Guelph had several good opportunities to score early but sent the ball just wide of the post.

At the 19-minute mark, 4-time All-Canadian Krissy Wishart (Hamilton, ON) stole the ball off the Mustangs centre defender who initiated a self-pass off a free hit down at the 10-yard line. Wishart then sent a lifted pass over the defender's stick to a wide open Brienne Stairs (Kitchener, ON) who found the back of the mesh for a 1-0 lead which the Gryphons took into the intermission.

Seven minutes after the break, the Stairs sisters connected on a long corner play as Tegan found Brienne in the slot and she nailed a reverse stick sweep to the backboard for the insurance marker and an unprecedented 28 goals in 13 contests.

Netminder Dorothy Marcy (Oliver, BC) earned the shutout turning away several key Mustang attacks by coming out and challenging in the first half and diving to push the ball wide of the post in the second frame.

Coach Turley stated, "The backline of Megan Shewfelt (Tavistock, ON), Heather Mitchell (Guelph, ON), Courtney Lacey (Guelph, ON) and Sam Anderson (Delta, BC) were stellar on defence. They came so hard for every interception; the Mustangs didn't know what hit them. We challenged for every ball and attacked with such power and speed. What a great way to clinch top spot in the OUA."

With an 11-0-2 record, Guelph gained a berth in the provincial championships and a bye in the quarterfinals.

The Gryphs have one league contest remaining against McGill that is slated for Sunday at Iceland in Mississauga.
