WBB RECAP: Gryphons Fall in Nationally Ranked Matchup Against Gaels; Strong 3rd Quarter Leads Gryphs in Win over Ridgebacks

GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons women's basketball team were on the road for two road games over the weekend where they earned a split. On Friday night (Jan. 16), the Gryphons fell to the undefeated Queen's Gaels before utilizing a big 3rd quarter that powered them to a win over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Saturday (Jan. 17).

The No. 10-ranked Gryphons were in Kingston on Friday night to take on the undefeated and No. 3-ranked Queen's Gaels as they were unable to overcome a slow start in the first half in their 78-51 loss. The Gaels would get off to quick start at the ARC outscoring the visitors 26-10 in the opening quarter as it led them to their 14th win of the season to keep their undefeated record intact. All eleven players on the Gryphons saw action as they were led by Christina Morra's 12 points. The Gryphons saw their impressive 9-game winning streak come to an end with tough road loss to one of the top teams in the country.
 

Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026 | Gryphons Outscore Ridgebacks 29-2 in 3rd Quarter to Earn Weekend Road Split in Oshawa
 
On Saturday night in Oshawa, the Gryphons got back into the win column in their 63-51 road victory over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. With the Gryphons trailing by two at halftime, the team would come out in the third quarter and have one of their best quarters of the season. The Gryphs would outscore the Ridgebacks 29-2 in the quarter, holding the hosts to 1-17 from the field, forcing 10 turnovers with 7 coming by steal and would find their shooting stroking from behind-the-arc with five of their seven made baskets in the third coming from the three-point line. The strong 3rd quarter performance was more than enough for the Gryphons to earn their 13th win of the season. Hannah Bourdon and Christina Morra had a double-double helping lead the way for Guelph. Bourdon finished the game with 25 points, 13 rebound and 7 steals while Morra had 12 points, 11 rebound and 2 blocks.
 
The Gryphons (13-3) return home on Wednesday night (Jan. 21) when they take on the Laurier Golden Hawks in our Shoot for the Cure game.
