GUELPH, Ont. – Throughout the 2025-26 season, the University of Guelph Department of Athletics will be highlighting various members from our Gryphon varsity programs as part of our 'Gryph's Locker Athletes of the Week, presented by POWERADE' series.
Olivia Rizakos (women's soccer) is the lone recipient of the first 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' for the new season for the period covering August 25 to 31, 2025.
Olivia Rizakos (Women's Soccer)
Olivia Rizakos of the Gryphons women's soccer team got her new season off to a strong start to earn 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' honours. The Toronto native found the back of the net in her first game of the season, scoring the team's second goal of the game in the 39th minute against the Windsor Lancers on Friday night (Aug. 29) as her side came away with a comfortable 3-0 victory in their season opener. The forward and team captain was a threat on the front line throughout the match for the Gryphons registering a team-high 5 shots with 2 shots on target. The psychology major also helped her side earn a point on the road in the return leg against the Lancers on Sunday (Aug. 31) in Windsor where the Gryphs kept a clean sheet in their scoreless draw. Rizakos and the rest of the Gryphons women's soccer team will now hit the road for two games this weekend in Sault Ste. Marie when they take on the Algoma Thunderbirds on Friday (Sept. 5) and Sunday (Sept. 7).
