Matthew Stam (special teams) have been named Gryphon Football 'Players of the Game' following the team's Week 4 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, September 13.
Jarod Tessier (Offence)
Jarod Tessier is this week's 'Offensive Player of the Game' following one of his best games as a Gryphon. Tessier, in his third season as part of the Gryphon receiving core was the team's main target in their Week 4 matchup against Ottawa. The anthropology major had a game-high 8 receptions for 156 yards as he was the go-to receiver in the game. Of the eight receptions the Welland, Ontario native made, two of them went 50+ yards and he made four catches that resulted in first downs. Tessier currently leads the team with 20 receptions for 296 yards and has a touchdown catch.
Yunus Larry (Defence)

For the second time in three weeks,
Yunus Larry takes home 'Defensive Player of the Game' honours. The Hamilton native recorded 6 assisted tackles in the game as the linebacker truly made his impact felt in pass coverage. The fourth-year economics major in the 2nd quarter, dropped back in coverage as he was in the right spot to pick off the Josh Janssen pass as
he returned it back the other way for a 63-yard pick-6. For Larry, it was his first career interception and first career touchdown in his 24 games played in his four-year Gryphon career. Larry on the season has tallied 12 total tackles to go along with his 1.5 sacks.
Matthew Stam (Special Teams)
Matthew Stam has been named 'Special Teams' player of the game for the second time this season. The first-year Guelph native had only one return the entire game and it came off the opening kickoff where he fielded the kickoff from his own 7-yard line where he was able to cut up field, making a couple of Gee-Gees miss as he got Guelph on the board with an
103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for his first touchdown in his career. The sport and event management major didn't see another return for the rest of the game as Ottawa kicked it away from him following the touchdown. Stam on the season has returned 15 kicks for 409 yards, averaging 27.3 yards per return.
