NORTH BAY, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons women's hockey team took one step closer to securing the No. 1 overall seed in the 2024-25 OUA women's hockey playoffs, thanks to a 3-0 road win over the Nipissing Lakers on Friday night (Feb. 14) in North Bay. The Gryphons, ranked No. 5 in the country in the latest U SPORTS rankings, received a 24-save shutout from their All-Canadian goalie,
Martina Fedel, as well as a two-goal performance from rookie forward,
Myriam Parnell, as part of a convincing 3-0 road win over the Nipissing Lakers on Friday night at Memorial Gardens. With the win, the Gryphons extend their win streak to eight in a row and improve to 19-4-2 on the season, while Nipissing falls to 15-6-4.

Parnell, a first-year neuroscience major from Guelph, scored twice in a span of less than five minutes in the 1st period to give the Gryphons an early 2-0 lead. The Gryphons lead would grow to 3-0 midway through the 2nd period thanks to fourth-year blueliner,
Teghan MacRae (Cookstown, ON), whose first goal of the season capped off a memorable road win for the OUA West-leading Gryphons.
With just one game remaining in the 26-game OUA regular season schedule, the Gryphons currently sit at 55 points on the season, with the Waterloo Warriors (52 points) the only other team in the OUA still capable of catching Guelph for the top seed. Guelph can officially lock up home-ice throughout the OUA playoffs if they are able to secure a point in their regular season finale on Saturday, where the Gryphons will travel to York University for a 7pm puck drop against the York Lions (11-12-2). Meanwhile, the Waterloo Warriors (17-2-6) will wrap up their regular season schedule on Saturday in the nation's capital with a 4pm puck drop versus the last-place Carleton Ravens (5-14-5).
