U SPORTS Top 10 (Feb. 12, 2025): Three Gryphon Teams Headline Latest National Rankings

GUELPH, Ont. - On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the U SPORTS office released their latest national rankings for the 2024-25 season. Three University of Guelph varsity teams headline the latest rankings, with the Gryphons women's hockey team remaining at No. 5 after moving up two spots last week. The women's track and field team continues to maintain their No. 2 ranking while the men's track team climbs one spot into a tie at No. 2 after they moved up to No. 3 last week. The women's basketball team dropped out of the rankings last week following their loss to Windsor on January 31. Next week will be the final rankings for women's hockey. Track and Field – Women No. 2 | Men No. 2

The Gryphons track and field team sees the women's team holding strong at No. 2 while the men's team moves up to a tie at No. 2 in the latest national rankings after moving up to No. 3 in the previous week. The Gryphons had their student-athletes competing in a pair of meets in State College, Pennsylvania and Toronto last week (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) and in Windsor this past weekend (Feb. 7-8). In State College, Alanzo Ryan (men's 600m) and Rebecca Parker (women's pentathlon) both set a new school records while Gabrielle Cole (women's 60m and 200m) and Max Davies (men's 3000) won in their respective races. Keon Rude (men's 60m hurdles), Adenike Abiodun (women's 60m hurdles), Adam Schmidt (men's 1000m), men's and women's 4x400m relay teams all earned their auto bid to nationals in State College. In Toronto, Liam Davis booked his spot to the U SPORTS Track and Field Championship in the men's weight throw. In Windsor over the weekend, Noah Dommasch (men's heptathlon) and Dianna Proctor (women's 200m) both earned auto bids to nationals while Travis Campbell set a new school record in the men's 60m with a time of 6.65 which is also the fastest time in U SPORTS this season. The Gryphon track and field team has two more meets this weekend before heading off to Windsor for the OUA Championship on February 21-22. They'll start off in Toronto for the Hal Brown Last Chance Meet on Friday (Feb. 14) before hosting the Guelph Last Chance meet on Saturday (Feb. 15). 
 
Women's Hockey – No. 5

The Gryphons women's hockey team remains at No. 5 in the U SPORTS Top 10 after climbing up to two spots into the top five in last week's rankings. Guelph went on the road for two games over weekend as they came away with a weekend double to move to the top of the OUA standings. On Friday night (Feb. 7), the Gryphons needed overtime to score the game's only goal against Western when Jadyn Calder roofed the game winner to secure the 1-0 win. Sophie Helfenstein earned her second shutout of the season stopping 24 shots in just over 62 minutes of action. The following afternoon (Feb. 8) in Windsor, the Gryphons got off to a quick start against the Lancers as Katherine Heard scored 19 seconds into game to put them ahead. Heard would add another goal in the second as the Gryphs picked up the 2-1 road win. Martina Fedel returned to action and was great in the Guelph net, making 36 saves in the win. The Gryphon women's hockey team wraps up their regular season with two road game starting in North Bay on Friday night (Feb. 14) when they take on the Nipissing Lakers before making the trip down to Toronto to battle the York Lions on Saturday night (Feb. 15).
