LONDON, Ont. - A late empty-netter from
Anthony Tabak sealed a 5–3 victory for the Guelph Gryphons men's hockey team on Saturday night (Nov. 22, 2025) at Western University's Thompson Arena. Gryphons captain,
Nathan Allensen, opened the game with back-to-back power-play goals at 6:27 of the first and 2:42 of the 2nd period. The goals were the fourth and fifth of the season for the Gryphons standout blueliner, matching his goal total from all of last season.
After Western answered with a power-play goal of their own, Guelph quickly restored the two-goal lead at 9:58 when
Nolan Dann scored his seventh of the season, finishing off a setup from
Ian Ferguson. Dann later added two assists for a three-point performance, continuing his team-leading playmaking pace (18 points, 7 goals, 11 assists in 12 games played). The Mustangs trimmed the deficit to 3–2 heading into the final period, but Nolan DeGurse extended Guelph's lead at 9:11 with his second goal of the season, capitalizing on a feed from
Duncan Penman to make it 4–2. Western would get one more back on the power play through Jacob Santerre at 16:01, but the Gryphons held firm defensively. Tabak then iced the win with his empty-net marker at 19:44. Despite being outshot 40–16, Guelph rode a strong performance from goaltender
Olivier Ciarlo, who stopped 37 of 40 shots to earn the win. With the win, the Gryphons improve to 9-4-1 on the season and move into a three-way tie for 1st
in the OUA West Division standings alongside Lakehead and Laurier. Western, meanwhile, falls to 5-9-0 with the loss. The Gryphons, winners of seven of their last eight overall, will head to Toronto Metropolitan University on Friday (Nov. 28) to face the TMU Bold (8-5-0), in a game that will close out the 2025 portion of the Gryphons regular season schedule.
