TORONTO, Ont. – On Tuesday, October 21, 2025 the U SPORTS office released its latest national rankings for the 2025-26 season. Four Gryphon varsity teams were represented in the latest polls, with women's hockey and men's cross country at No. 3, women's soccer at No. 8 and women's cross country at No. 9. Last week was the final Top 10 rankings for Women's Rugby with Guelph women's rugby coming in at No. 4 in the final rankings of their season. Women's Hockey – No. 3
The Gryphons women's hockey team made their debut in the initial national rankings at No. 6 last week and have now moved all the way up to No. 3 this week. The Gryphons extended their shutout streak to three straight games over weekend in victories over Windsor and Western. On Friday night (Oct. 17),
Sophie Helfenstein stopped all 35 shots she saw for her second consecutive shutout in her team's 3-0 win on the road against the Lancers.
Martina Fedel saw her first action of the season on the following night (Oct. 18) as she made 17 saves en route to a 4-0 shutout win in London over the Mustangs. The Gryphons (4-0-0) return home to the Gryphon Centre for a pair of games this week, beginning with the Western Mustangs on Friday (Oct. 24) followed by the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday (Oct. 25).
Cross Country | Men No. 3, Women No. 9
The Gryphons men's cross country team remains at No. 3 while the women's team drops to No. 9 in the latest rankings. The Gryphons competed at the Marauder BayFront Open on October 10 in Hamilton which saw the men's team come in 3rd-place in the team standings led by fourth-year standout
Max Davies who came in 2nd-place, competing in his first event of the season.
Jack Lehto recorded his second top 5 finish of the season, crossing the line in 5th while
Christian Rachner finished in the top 20, coming in 13th. The women's team finished in 4th-place in the team standings as
Alexandra McDougall came in 1st-place for her second individual win of the season, with her first coming at the Vigars and Salter Western Invitational back on September 20.
Michelle Gray recorded her third top 20 finish on the season, crossing the line in 16th-place. The Gryphons cross country teams will now head to Kingston this Saturday (Oct. 25) for the 2025 OUA Cross Country Championships, with the women's race set to get underway at 11am followed by the men's race at 12pm.
Women's Soccer – No. 8
In the final U SPORTS Top 10 rankings for women's soccer, the Gryphons will finish as the No. 8-ranked team in the country. The Gryphons opened up their postseason as the No. 1-seed of the OUA West division when they hosted the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday (Oct. 18) in the quarterfinal stage.
Olivia Rizakos' goal from the spot in the 53rd minute was all the Gryphs needed in their 1-0 win. The Gryphons are back at the Gryphon Soccer Complex this Saturday (Oct. 25) when they host the No. 2-seed from the OUA East division, Queen's Gaels, with the winner moving on to the OUA Championship game while also clinching a berth in the 2025 U SPORTS Women's Soccer Championships in Hamilton (Nov. 6 to 9 at McMaster).
